Advance Planning

Yep, that’s what we are noted for.  We do nothing without planning it out far in advance and making sure that we have everything taken care of.  That being said, we’re leaving at noon today for North Dakota.  We hadn’t realized that it was Karen’s 75th birthday this week.  OK, we did know that her birthday was today and had sent her a card and package, but didn’t put the milestone date together until Melanie mentioned it in an e-mail yesterday. The family is getting together on Friday for Karen’s celebration (p.s. Michelle was born on the same day also).  Having nothing else to do except have the house reroofed and a NNSGC golf tournament this week, we decided to join the family in their party mode.

Nothing like travelling to North Dakota in March!  What can go wrong with crossing the Rockies, traversing Nebraska with its’ floods, and nice “cool” temperatures?  We’re not sure exactly what path we are going to follow – the two obvious ways are I-80 and then cut north somewhere and the other is to take I-15 out of Salt Lake City and hit I-90/I-94 in Montana.  Surely, there will be sunshine and clear roads all the way.  Oh well, the Red Baron needs some exercise.   We’ll leave today and spend the night in West Wendover, NV (wonder if there’s anything to do in that town?), then make the decision tomorrow when we hit Salt Lake City whether to continue east or go north.

The roofers were supposed to come yesterday – we presently have all the shingles, vents, etc. sitting on top of the roof; however, they got hung up on another job and are now supposed to arrive this morning.  Since we don’t really need to be here for their work, we’ll make sure everything is going OK with them before leaving.
