Karen's Birthday Party

Our first full day in Christine came out beautiful and sunny with blue skies; however, a little chilly!  We spent the day relaxing and enjoying Ken and Melanie's company.  As strange as it may seem, it was just fun watching the birds feeding outside their sun room.  They say they spend more time in their sun room than they do in the rest of the house.  It's a great addition and very sunny.  Not only were there sparrows, blue jays, and red-headed woodpeckers at the feeders, but also ring necked pheasants out in the corn fields.  Ken said they had some wild turkeys around, but we didn't see any.  Took one picture of their home (affectionately referred to as Knudsen's River Ranch).  It's from the back since I couldn't tramp through the snow in front.

In the evening, we went downtown to a local pub where the "girls" had reserved a room for Karen's 75th birthday party.  Everyone (24 - including children, grandchildren, and us) were in the room when she arrived.  It was a total surprise and she saw me first and was totally shocked and then asked - Where's your wife?.  She then spotted Vi - quite a surprise!  All in all, it was a fun party - there were a few drinks consumed and then we had dinner.  The waitress, Caitlyn, did an outstanding job of keeping track of everyone's orders.  I'll add some pictures later, but here's one I took which didn't come out too well.  It's of Karen and her grandchildren and one great-grandchild).

Reilee shot a great video of Karen coming in the door and then captured her seeing everyone - including Vi and myself.  I'll probably send that in a separate e-mail since it's so big a file.  Fun talking to everyone and also watching the basketball games in the background.  After watching Duke eke out a win, the party was pretty much over, so we returned to Christine.

Today is another relaxing day out here, watching the birds and some deer out in front of the house. Don't have to go far to get your deer during the hunting season!

Tonight I think some of the family is going over Karen's for shoopnoodles (?) and more conversation.  We'll probably go downtown for some shopping this afternoon.

Stop back later for some more pictures of the party when I get them.
